Contrary to what you may have heard, most people who attempt to build their business to become free from a day job NEVER end up being really free from their business.
They simply started their own job, but with the added responsibility of other people's jobs.
In fact, when I started my own business, I was losing money in the first few months, and then could barely pay myself a good salary.
One misconception...
But my one misconception was that I was convinced with was sinking all my efforts to build an autonomous business. (Really, I am not supposed to do anything and now everything?)
And I know that my initial failures may sound... well... uncommon and unlikely...
But if you already have your business, or have owned one in the past (or even have an entrepreneurial friend), then you'll know that the idea of not having enough time nor enough money is pretty typical small business suffering.
First, you setup up shop and have a service or product to sell.
Or... if you don't setup shop yet, you start planning to do so, full of dreams and hopes.
And maybe you actually start to get a few sales, something to get excited about at first.
So you start delivering on your promise. You work hard at keeping the marketing up and keep paying down those bills but deep down you know that you need more sales to really survive.
You worry there are not enough clients out there.
Were you crazy in thinking you could make it? Should you stop before it is too late?
But you're a bold-faced entrepreneur and you have already spent thousands of dollars in tools, apps, marketing unpaid hours and you still haven't accomplished everything yet. You just go for it with the "we'll see where it goes" mentality.
Sure, if your path is well thought out...
Next, it's time to manage people to deliver on YOUR promise.
Oh, now, it's all good, you have people who will do the work for you.
You must be closer to freedom right?
Then, people problems start to pile up. You had not realized that friend or acquaintance you hired is not cutting it, but he is so nice... Clients start to complain about how they were treated and mistakes that were made.
You read about Human Resources strategies and the importance of culture, but you only have a small team and no resources to implement all of that stuff.
So you realize you need systems. You see systems, systems, systems all over the internet.
Then, you realize you need to implement systems in your business...
You decide systems are the solution and start setting some up with the idea it will all hold up by itself now.
But it doesn't, because your people don't get it. They're nice and all, but they don't run the systems you have designed.
The promise of systems does not turn into a reality and actually added even more work on your plate. Here is one more to-do in your list to look after...
